When to request a female interpreter in a UAE hospital
A male relative who ‘can translate’ is not a substitute in a labour ward. UAE hospitals will often ask for a female interpreter. Tick the box on the form.
Default for maternity
Latifa in Dubai and similar wards elsewhere: we send a woman unless you override. Filipino, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam and Arabic are the languages we cover first.
She is not a chaperone
The linguist interprets clinical language and steps out if you ask. She does not hold the baby, argue with billing, or stay overnight unless you book the hours.
